Umbrella Cockatoo (White Cockatoo)

Born in 1991, Ella joined The Zoo in 2010. She is very affectionate and loves attention, so she gets along well with most people. However, she doens't always get along with other parrots. She's a bit of a diva!

Umbrella cockatoos are native to the tropical rainforests of Indonesia.


Diet

Umbrella cockatoos, also known as white cockatoos, feed on seeds, nuts, fruits, and roots.


Social Structure

During the breeding season, individuals form breeding pairs and separate from the group to find a suitable nest in the hollow of a tree. The female lays white eggs, usually two at a time.


Conservation Status

Endangered

Threats in the Wild

Declining umbrella cockatoo populations are due to trapping for the pet trade and habitat loss for logging and mining.
