Jasper joind The Zoo in the fall of 2020 from a facility in New Jersey that was unfortunately forced to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He is very intelligent and loves solving puzzle feeders and exploring the enrichment the keepers give him.

Plush-crested jays eat a wide variety of foods, including small invertebrates, insects, fruits and even eggs or baby birds.
Plush-crested jays are very vocal, often calling for no reason. They are even able to imitate the calls of other birds in their habitat.
The global population of the plush-crested jay has not yet been assessed, but it is believed to be decreasing in population in the wild.
