Both of our screech owls that live at The Zoo do so because they have vision impairments. This impacts their ability to hunt for food and would be their demise in the wild.

Screech owls are usually solitary outside of breeding season. They will nest in a naturally-occuring tree hollow or one made by a woodpecker.
Although currently listed as Least Concern, eastern screech owl populations are in decline.
