Eastern Box Turtle
Our two box turtles hatched at another facility in September. They joined The Zoo shortly after to become ambassador animals to teach people about native turtles.

Lifespan
The average lifespan is 40 years, but they have been known to reach 100 years of age!
Range
Eastern box turtles are native to forests of the eastern United States.
Diet
Box turtles are opportunistic omnivores that eat a wide variety of plant and animal matter.

Eastern box turtles are decreasing in the wild. They are threatened by a variety of factors, including habitat degradation and fragmentation, pollution, vehicle collisions and climate change.
