Fennec Fox

Padme and Ani came to The Zoo in fall of 2020 from a facility in New Jersey that was unfortunatley forced to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The girls are very energetic and love playing with small dog toys and puzzle feeders.

Diet

Fennec foxes are omnivorous and will eat small birds, lizards, rodents, eggs, fruits, and vegetation.


Social Structure

Fennec foxes mate for life. Adults and pups may communicate by barking, yapping, purring, and squeaking. Males and females both care for pups.

Threats in the Wild

Fennec foxes are stable in the wild. Potential threats include urbanization and oil field development.
