Leptailurus serval
10 years in the wild, up to 20 years under human care
Servals are native to sub-Saharan Africa.
Servals are entirely carnivorous and eat rodents, birds, and reptiles. Occasionally, servals will hunt larger prey such as flamingoes.
Servals are solitary outside of the mating season. Cubs stay with their mothers for only a year. Both males and females establish home ranges, which often overlap.
Servals populations are currently stable in the wild, but they are vulnerable to habitat loss and degradation in their native range.
